Monday’s Meth Arrest Leads to 2 Additional Lab Cases

 Tipler
 Edward Garcia
 Harris Garcia

May 21, 2014

Deputies from both Alpha and Bravo patrol companies began following up on lab leads over the weekend. This culminated in three arrests on Monday by Deputy Weatherford and K-9 Deputy Anderson. Tuesday, these two Deputies continued their aggressive assault on meth operations to make this second case. These deputies followed up by making three more arrests for manufacturing methamphetamines.

Deputy Weatherford and K-9 Deputy Anderson furthered the information they gained from Monday’s case by arresting Michael Tipler 1-20-88, Harris Garcia 12-9-92 and Edward Garcia 6-30-91. These deputies discovered Tipler had active warrants and began searching for him. These warrants were issued from Gilchrist County for Violation of Probation stemming from an earlier arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; and an active warrant from Dixie County for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of listed chemicals (for meth production), fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both of these warrants had a NO BOND.

The deputies located Tipler who was traveling in a 2003 white Pontiac van in the 3600 block of US Alt Hwy 27. Tipler was in the company of the Garcia brothers. As the deputies began their investigation they discovered this trio had mobile meth lab in the vehicle with them. They summoned the assistance of the LCSO Drug Task Force to disassemble and render this mobile operation safe.

This investigation continued to snowball and led DTF investigators to a second lab disposal site in the Bronson area. Investigators worked additional hours making this site safe too. DTF said this site contained the used components “trash” created during the manufacturing of this dangerous and toxic drug. The site had the used mixed volatile ingredients like lithium and other solvents, which can still cause great bodily harm to any unsuspecting person not aware what they are handling.

Tipler was arrested and charged with production of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. His bond is set at $60,000.00. Both Harris Garcia and his brother Edward Garcia have been arrested and charged with production of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Their bond has been set at $60,000.00 each.

Harris Garcia is also facing additional charges for two counts of grand theft auto and dealing in stolen property. These charges are currently being filed by the Criminal Investigations Division of LCSO after a post arrest interview yesterday. Harris Garcia had been identified as a suspect in the theft of at least two vehicles in the Bronson area.

Juvenile Crime Spree Halted

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office has responded to multiple complaints in the last 5 weeks in the South Eastern part of Levy County of 4 wheeled ATV’s being stolen.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, Deputies again responded to this area after receiving reports of an ATV stolen from one home and a boat stolen from another. Utilizing some new investigative techniques as well as some very old ones, and after putting a few miles under their boots, Investigators determined the general direction of travel taken by the suspects.  On a hunch, they located the stolen boat hidden at a home approximately 5 miles away.

Many hours and miles later, Investigators identified three local juveniles, one 16 years old and two 17 year olds, that are responsible for all of these crimes. Four ATV’s, a boat and one gun (with a combined value of $25,500) were recovered. Most of the items have been returned to the rightful owners.

Charges for grand theft and burglary have been forwarded to the State Attorney on all three youths.

Burglary Investigation Recovers $10,400 in Stolen Property

May 13, 2014

Investigators with Levy County Sheriff’s Office took advantage of a break in a recent string of residential burglaries in the Chiefland area. Investigators developed Brad Michael Shipley - DOB 9-2-77 as a primary suspect in these cases. Shipley was stealing guns, knives, fishing poles and other outdoor/hunting equipment and using neighborhood kids to help him commit these crimes. Shipley threatened the kids telling them if they told - they would go to jail with him.

Shipley’s plan unraveled when one of the kids told his mother what he had been made to do. The mother contacted LCSO and investigators seized the moment. Investigators were able recover property from six residential burglaries in Levy County, one burglary in Gilchrist County and a storage shed burglary in Alachua County.

Shipley is being held in the Levy County Detention Facility on an $810,000.00 bond.
