Tip Leads Detectives to Stolen UTV

On 01/13/21 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Drug Task Force received information on the possible location of a stolen UTV in Bronson. The information provided led Detectives to 10151 NE 48th Lane. Detectives determined this is the home of Tye Pierce.

Arriving Detectives saw a UTV parked in the yard. This UTV had clearly been altered in appearance by painting it, taking a brush guard off and cutting the roll cage down by several inches. Detectives confirmed the UTV was in-fact reported as stolen. Detectives then attempted to contact the occupants of the residence, without success.

Donna Boyd who Detectives knew was on probation for possession of controlled substance was detained in the yard when Detectives arrived. Boyd told Detectives that there were multiple people inside the residence and they were likely hiding and refusing to come outside.

Detectives then conducted a security sweep of the inside of the home based on a reasonable suspicion that evidence in the home could be destroyed. There they found multiple people hiding. These individuals were detained.

Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant. The search warrant was executed and Detectives found a stolen motorcycle inside the living room of the residence. As the search of the home and property was being conducted multiple people arrived to the property that was being searched. Their arrival onto the property made them subject to search. These arriving individuals were found to be in violation of Florida laws and they too were detained. Warrant Arrest Leads to Additional Charges

January 7, 2021

On January 5, 2021 Detectives were conducting targeted traffic enforcement in the Oak Ridge Estates area near Bronson. Detectives saw Crystal L. Mencer (3/1/85) of Williston, a person they knew had an active warrant for her arrest for failing to appear for court (FTA), driving a red car. Mencer was stopped and Detectives discovered she was driving while her driver’s license was suspended. Mencer was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant and the detectives continued their investigation.

Detectives ran the Tennessee tag on the car Mencer was driving and were unable to get any additional information. The VIN number was then ran and it was discovered the car had been reported stolen in Tennessee. Mencer was additionally arrested for grand theft auto and the car was searched. Detectives located methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia in a bag belonging to Mencer.

James Raley (6/20/2000) of Bronson was a passenger in Mencer’s car and when questioned admitted to having illegal narcotics in his pocket. Detectives seized a “loaded” syringe filled with methamphetamine liquid.

Mencer was charged with grand theft auto, possession of methamphetamines, driving while license suspended and FTA. Her total bond was set at $47,000.00. Raley was charged with possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $7,000.00.
