On Thursday, September 23, 2021 Deputy Gerard Williams was on patrol in the Whitted Estates subdivision between Rosewood and Chiefland. This subdivision has been a recent source of multiple resident complaints of theft and illegal drug deals. Deputy Williams saw a truck with a heavily damaged front windshield driving toward him. The driver stopped in the middle of the road then abruptly turned down a side road when he saw Deputy Williams. The truck pulled into a residential driveway and the driver exited the passenger side then ran toward the back of the home. Deputy Williams gave multiple commands to stop and ultimately used his Taser to stop the fleeing subject.
Deputies identified the driver as Waylan Campbell (11/2/91) of Cedar Key. Campbell was found in possession of methamphetamines, fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia. Campbell also had a suspended driver’s license. He was arrested and is being held in lieu of a $277,000.00 bond.
On Friday, September 24, 2021 Detectives arrested Frank McCain (11/29/78) of Rosewood for failure to register as a sexual offender. Detectives learned McCain had been living in an unregistered location for several weeks in violation of his State of Florida requirements to register a new home address. The investigation also discovered McCain failed to report his employment location as he is also required. He is being held in lieu of a $10,000.00 bond. This is McCain’s third arrest for failure to register as a convicted sex offender.
