Levy County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS were dispatched at approximately 1:30 p.m. today to a home located in the Williston Highlands Subdivision on NE 151 Terrace. They were responding to a report of a subject attempting suicide by overdose. Two LCSO deputies arrived on scene and were confronted by a man armed with a handgun. The deputies ordered the subject to drop his weapon but instead he rushed at the deputies. Both deputies discharged their weapons and the subject was struck by gunfire. The individual, a 37 year old white male succumbed to these injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Both deputies were uninjured during this altercation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has been requested to complete the investigation and the crime scene is currently still active. Both deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave per the Agency policy until this investigation is complete. No names will be released until the investigation has been completed by FDLE. There is no current threat to the community and Sheriff McCallum asks that we keep everyone involved in our prayers.
