Smoking and Driving Leads to Drug Arrest

September 14, 2022

Deputy Cody Weaver was on patrol in the Town of Inglis on September 12th when he observed a subject driving a maroon Mercedes throw a lit cigarette from the vehicle onto the road. Deputy Weaver knows that this is a violation of Florida Law, FSS. 590.10. Deputy Weaver ran the license plate and discovered the owner did not have a valid driver’s license. He stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver.

The driver identified himself with a fraudulent “International Driver’s License” as Yandry R. Guillen (12/8/84) of Gainesville, Florida. Deputy Weaver noticed Guillen was acting suspicious and questioned him further. Guillen ultimately produced a Florida Identification card, not a driver’s license. Guillen was detained and as questioning continued he authorized a search of his vehicle. Deputy Weaver located methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia inside the car.

Guillen was arrested and taken to the Levy County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of more than 13 grams of methamphetamines and driving with a suspended license.

Deputy Weaver was contacted by detention staff Officer David Gelbogis shortly after departing the jail. Officer Gelbogis located more drugs Guillen had concealed on his body as he was being processed into the facility. Officer Gelbogis seized an additional 55 grams of cocaine Guillen had hidden in his crotch area. The additional charges of possession of cocaine and introduction of contraband into a Detention Facility were added to his list of charges. Guillen is being held in lieu of a $162,000.00 bond.
