TOP VOLUNTEER HONORED BY LCSO

On February 10th, 2014 members of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office and C.O.P. (Citizens on Patrol) volunteers met to recognize the 2013 C.O.P. Volunteer of the Year. The C.O.P. Program is made up of civilian volunteers who donate their time and talents to assist the Sheriff’s Office. These volunteers provide assistance with traffic control, funeral escorts, special events, courthouse duties and other needs.  These volunteers assist both LCSO and every taxpayer with their volunteer service to the County.

Sheriff McCallum was honored to deliver this year’s C.O.P. Top Volunteer award to Stella Damann. Sheriff McCallum said “Every C.O.P. Member is deserving of this award but we can only pick one.” Stella joined the C.O.P. Program in 1994, and since then has donated almost 4000 hours. Please join in congratulating Stella for her accomplishments and award.

C.O.P members and staff enjoyed a great meal of barbequed chicken (prepared by Lt. Shawn Hunt and Deputy Keith O’Steen) followed by delicious desserts (prepared by Mrs. Wilda Long and Mrs. Laurie Beauchamp) as an expression of our gratitude for the hours they volunteer.

Scam Alert

February 10, 2014

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Central Florida Electric Cooperative (CFEC), is urging all CFEC customers to be aware of a current scam operation.

Numerous CFEC customers have received phone calls from unknown subjects claiming their electric bill has not been paid. The customer is being told that if payment is not made within two hours, then their power will be turned off. These people are asking for payment to be made by phone and are requesting the customer’s credit card number.

CFEC officials confirm these calls have NOT been authorized by them. They will not contact any CFEC customer by phone requesting payment. CFEC and LCSO are requesting any customer who has been contacted, copy down the number you are being called from and contact LCSO to make a report. Do not give anyone your personal identification information or credit card number. CFEC is urging their customers to check their web site for any additional information concerning their services at www.cfec.com.

LCSO Locates 4 Manufacturing Methamphetamines

On January 31, 2014 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division located 4 individuals producing methamphetamine at a home located at 3491 NW 57 Court Chiefland, Fl. Arrested are John Solomon Hall W/M 12-19-70, Nicole Smart W/F 1-31-82, Calah Crandall W/F 6-31-89 and Paula Jerram W/F10-9-59. All are facing multiple charges including manufacturing and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell.

Units responded to this location while conducting follow up investigations into recently reported burglaries in the area. Investigators developed a lead that directed them to this location. It was suspected that the burglar used this home to sell or stash recently stolen property. While conducting their investigation, they discovered the occupants were involved in illegally manufacturing meth in the home and in shed on the property.

Levy County’s Drug Task Force investigators responded to assist with the investigation and recover the narcotics. The chemicals used to manufacture these types of drugs are extremely volatile and it requires specialized training to properly and safely recover them.
