Known Burglar Arrested (Again)

June 27, 2017

Timothy Cobb (12-21-72) of Bronson is a subject well known in his home town. Not for his contribution to his community but as a burglar. Cobb has been imprisoned in the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) system 6 times since 1994 and has amassed 40 felony arrests and 14 felony convictions, most for burglaries. He was released from the DOC on May 7, 2017 after serving 5 years for his latest conviction.
On June 23, 2017, Levy County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division K-9 Deputy Gary Garboski received information from the Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) to be on the lookout (BOLO) for Cobb because he was a suspect in a recently reported burglary which occurred at 10291 NE 20th Avenue. The victim of this burglary reported jewelry, memorabilia, coins and two guns that had been stolen. K-9 Deputy Garboski located Cobb walking along US Hwy 27 north of the Town of Bronson, stopped him and conducted a roadside interview. K-9 Deputy Garboski was assisted by Deputy Gaffey, and they located and identified numerous items being carried by Cobb as property which was reported stolen from the 20th Avenue burglary.

Investigators from the C.I.D. responded to the scene and conducted a more in depth interview with Cobb and his associate. Cobb gave information to investigators which led them to a home where he had been staying. Investigators located and recovered additional property which was identified as stolen from the 20th Avenue burglary.

Cobb was arrested and booked into the Levy County Detention Facility and has been charged with burglary, grand theft of a firearm, grand theft and possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon. His bond has been set at $275,000.00.

911 Call Leads to Multiple Felony Charges

June 26, 2017

On Thursday, June 22 at 11:13 pm deputies were dispatched to 2751 NE 200th Avenue in Williston to a 911 emergency call. A female caller told 911 emergency operators that she had been beaten up and was calling from the address where it happened. The call abruptly ended before emergency operators could get additional information.

When deputies arrived address the caller provided, Willie C. McCray (4-1-77) identified by deputies as the home owner, answered the door. McCray told deputies just he and his nephew were the only ones at the home and no altercation had taken place there. McCray refused to allow deputies to search the home. Deputies spoke to neighbors who did not report seeing or hearing any altercation at McCray’s home. With no further information to verify this complaint, deputies had to leave.

On Friday, June 23 at 12:10 a.m. a second call from the same female was received by 911 operators. She was able to provide her name and the address from where she was calling during this second call. She told emergency operators she had been picked up by McCray from her home in another county. When they arrived at his home in Williston, they engaged in a physical altercation where she was punched, kicked and eventually locked inside a bathroom in McCray’s home and unable to make another 911 call. She ultimately escaped after McCray fell asleep.

Deputies located McCray asleep inside the home. While taking McCray into custody, deputies saw firearms and drug paraphernalia in the room. McCray is a ten time convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Deputies contacted the Criminal Investigations Division that secured a search warrant for the home where two guns; a rifle and a semi-automatic handgun, as well as ammunition were located. In addition, a felony amount of marijuana was located during the search.

McCray has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, false imprisonment, depriving a person of 911, felony battery and resisting an officer which stemmed from deputies first contact with him. He was booked into the Levy County Detention Facility and his bond has been set at $150,000.00.
