Man Arrested for Burglary During Hurricane Ian

 September 30, 2022

Multiple Deputies responded to a local business in Bronson after a citizen who lived adjacent to the business heard the sound of someone kicking in the door around 6:20 a.m. yesterday morning. The 911 call was made as Hurricane Ian was raging through south Florida.

Deputies arrived and could hear the sounds of people talking inside. Deputies called to the individuals inside to surrender but the unknown suspects did not comply. K-9 Sergeant Kevin Kinik and his partner Zombie entered the building. Zombie quickly located a single suspect hiding inside who immediately surrendered. A complete search of the business did not locate any additional suspect.

Deputies identified the suspect as Matthew Adams (2/14/95) who only recently moved to Bronson. Deputies determined he had been talking to himself prior to his surrender. Adams is no stranger to law enforcement and has seven (7) prior felony convictions and five (5) misdemeanor convictions. Adams has been charged with burglary during a state of emergency (this charge enhances the burglary penalties), criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia. His total bond has been set at $135,000.00.
