Fugitive Flees from Law Enforcement and Incurs Additional Charges

September 30, 2016

The United States Marshal’s Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Criminal Investigations Division of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office executed an arrest warrant on Theophilus Lee earlier today in Williston. Theophilus Lee, most recently released from the Florida Department of Corrections in 2014, was identified by the Gainesville Police Department as a suspect in a recent Armed Home Invasion Robbery in Alachua County.

Lee was also identified as a suspect in a recent investigation conducted by the LCSO. This investigation was related to a report of shots being fired into a home located in the east Williston area of Levy County. Lee refused to answer investigator’s questions and was escorted to the Levy County Detention Facility. Lee, still handcuffed, decided to run and fled from law enforcement.

Lee’s escape attempt was short lived. He made it approximately 300 yards before he was captured and returned to custody. Lee is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond. He faces an additional charge of escape and will appear before an 8th Judicial Circuit Judge tomorrow morning at first appearance.

Six Juveniles Arrested for Burglary and Theft

September 28, 2016

Six Fanning Springs juveniles were arrested on September 27, 2016 by LCSO Patrol Deputies after responding to a burglary scene at 7991 NW 168 Lane in Fanning Springs. LCSO Deputies C. Gregory and A. Hiers met with the victim who reported approximately $2,200 of electronics, silver coins and other valuables stolen from her home between 9-23-16 and 9-26-16. The victim immediately cast her suspicions on local “problematic” neighborhood juveniles and provided deputies with some proof supporting her suspicion.

Deputies Gregory and Hiers discovered entry was made into the home through a broken window on the south end of the home. Based upon additional discoveries made at the crime scene combined with the victim’s information, a search began for the juveniles believed to be responsible.
Six juveniles, all living in the Fanning Springs Annex area of Levy County were located, detained and interviewed. These six admitted to entering the victim’s home several times over the course of three days taking items each time they went.

In addition to solving this case and recovering most of the stolen property, deputies discovered some of the same group was responsible for the theft of a $2,000 riding lawn mower. The owner of the mower reported it stolen from his shed on September 23, 2016. He also lives in the same area. The group of juveniles told deputies they had “stashed” the mower in a wooded area nearby after they spray painted it to disguise its appearance.

All juveniles, ranging in age between 12 to 17 years old, were booked into the Levy County Detention Facility and charged with burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief. They were later released by the Department of Juvenile Justice to their parents.

Man Arrested for Theft of Cattle Feed

September 12, 2016

Alliance Dairy owners contacted LCSO after discovering approximately $18,000 of cattle feed and other feed products had been stolen over a period of months. Dairy owners suspected James Jones (1-1-71), an employee of 6 months, was responsible for the theft after conducting an internal inquiry.

LCSO investigators conducted surveillance on Saturday night September 10 and into the early morning hours of September 11. Investigators observed Jones operating a front end loader as he dumped several loads of feed into his waiting truck and trailer. Jones was stopped by deputies after he left the property. Investigators discovered the high quality cattle feed in Jones’ trailer covered by a tarp.

Investigators obtained a statement from Jones who confessed to investigators he had taken at least three loads of cattle feed from the Alliance Dairy without permission. He was arrested and booked into the Levy County Detention Facility for three counts of Grand Theft. His bond has been set at $30,000.00.

Suspect Arrested on Sex Offenses

September 12, 2016

David Carnes (5-29-97) was arrested by LCSO investigators on September 8, 2016 for Lewd and Lascivious Battery and Production of Child Pornography.  LCSO investigators received a complaint earlier this month from the family of a juvenile victim. The family alleged Carnes was having sexual intercourse with their 15 year old daughter and videotaped these sexual encounters. To further complicate matters, when the victim and Carnes broke up, Carnes’ jealously got the better of him and he sent one video to the new boyfriend who lives out of state.

Investigators worked with an out of state agency to recover the video from the boyfriend. In the interim, Carnes was approached and interviewed by LCSO investigators. Investigators obtained a statement from Carnes who confessed to taping his sexual encounters with the victim, acknowledged he knew her age and admitted to sending the video to her new boyfriend.  Investigators were also able to recover the device Carnes used to send the video and in doing so also recovered additional videos.
Carnes was booked into the Levy County Detention Facility where he is being held on a $250,000.00 bond.

The 911 caller reported an individual was bleeding profusely from what appeared to be stab wounds.  LCDPS personnel transported the victim to Shands at UF under a trauma alert.

Brown stated he slapped the glass pipe out of the victim’s hand and while doing so was attacked by the victim and suffered a knife wound on his hand. Brown said he retrieved a kitchen knife to protect himself and when attacked again, he stabbed the victim several times.

The investigation revealed the victim had been stabbed 10 times in the upper torso and back. This caused extensive internal damage and collapsed both lungs. The victim had to be rushed into emergency surgery to save his life.

Brown was arrested and transported to the Levy County Detention Facility and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He is being held on a $100,000.00 bond.
