On February 1, 2013 Lamont Lewis Nelson registered as a Sexual Predator with the Levy County Sheriff's Office. By Florida law Nelson is required to notify law enforcement whenever he changes or establishes a new address.

 

Lamont Nelson was convicted in 1999 in Highlands County, Fl for Sexual Battery on a victim under 12 yoa. Nelson was just released from prison and has registered his address as: 12451 NE 108 Terrace Archer, Fl.

Burglary Arrests made by LCSO Detectives

On January 30, 2013 Levy County Sheriff's Detectives Jimmy Anderson and Mike Wilkinson arrested John Wayne Pipkin 1-11-77 and Kelly Michelle Colson 5-24-84. Detectives received information that this "duo" were responsible for various crimes reported to LCSO dating back to November of 2012. Taking this first tangible lead in these cases, the detectives were able to recover stolen property, including 6 guns. The recovered property is valued in excess of $2940.00. In addition to the property recovered, detectives obtained confessions from the two whom had uttered stolen/forged checks to area businesses in excess of $500.00.

 

Pipkin is being held at the Levy County Jail on a $665,000 bond after being charged in 5 separate cases. Colson is being held at the Levy County Jail on a $165,000 bond after being charged in 2 cases.

Control burns lead to smokey Road Condtions



There are two control burns in the Morriston area that may cause heavy smoke. The first is an 810 acre burn at 326 just south of 343 and leading to obstructed views  on 326 just west of 337. The second is a 290 acre burn at 121 and Cow Creek Road, which is obstructing views in the area of 19 on past Cow Creek Road on 121 due to smoke  There are troopers in the area and signs posted on 326 warning motorists

Remains found in Levy County identified as missing Hernando County resident

Levy County Detectives worked diligently with surrounding agencies in their effort to identify the remains found by a local hunter in a wooded area east of Otter Creek on January 18, 2013. Late yesterday an autopsy was completed by the 8th Circuit Medical Examiners Office in Gainesville. The work of the Medical Examiner provided enough information for Detectives to compare to a missing person report filed in Hernando County on 1-1-13. The remains were identified as Deanna Lee Stires W/F dob: 9-20-94. Detectives of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and the Levy County Sheriff's Office are working together to determine the cause of death.

Human remains discovered by hunter in Levy County

 

On 1-18-13 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wooded area east of Otter Creek off of SR 24. A hunter located what appeared to be the remains of a decomposing human body. Detectives verified that the remains were human and are currently working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to identify this person and determine a cause of death. School Security Meeting

On January 15, 2013 personnel from the Levy County Sheriff's Office, Levy County School Board and all Levy County Police Departments conducted a school security meeting at the Levy County Sheriff's Office. Along with Sheriff Bobby McCallum, his command staff and School Resource Deputies, the following personnel participated in the meeting:

  1. Levy County School Superintendent Robert Hastings;
  2. Levy County School Board Director of Administration Jeff Edison;
  3. Williston Police Chief Dennis Strow;
  4. Williston Assistant Police Chief Clay Connolly;
  5. Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas;
  6. Inglis Police Chief Steve Dixon;
  7. Cedar Key Police Chief Virgil Sandlin.   

The purpose of the meeting was to review the existing Levy County School Critical Incident Response Plan and to insure continued cooperation among the various law enforcement agencies and the School Board.

Homicide in Bronson

Time:                11:15 AM

 

On December 8, 2012 deputies responded to 10151 NE 48 Lane in reference to a 9-1-1 call. Upon arrival deputies made contact with a family member who stated that George Hamilton Pierce, 51 years of age was deceased inside the residence.

 

Detectives confirmed that the decease was in fact George Hamilton Pierce. This case has been classified as a homicide the second homicide in 2012.  At this time the cause of death will not be released.  Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jimmy Anderson or you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-877-349-8477.
