The Levy County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division noticed a
recent spike in golf cart thefts in the Inglis area of our county. Lt. Scott
Finnen was dispatched to a call regarding suspicious person(s) in a SUV pulling
a trailer at 1:35 pm on January 23, 2017. He located a vehicle pulling a
trailer that contained a golf cart at the intersection of US 19 and SR 40. This
vehicle matched the description given by the 911 caller. Lt. Finnen observed a
traffic infraction and stopped the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Shayne A. Parry, (W/F 9-19-82) and
passenger Burt G. Massey (W/M 10-21-68) told Lt. Finnen they worked for a golf
cart repair center in Homosassa, Florida and picked up this cart at the request
of the owner. Lt. Finnen documented the serial number of the golf cart and took
pictures while on scene. This golf cart had not been reported stolen, therefore,
he released Parry and Massey.
Later this same evening, the LCSO received a theft of a golf
cart report in Inglis. Investigators contacted the victim and showed him the
photographs Lt. Finnen had taken earlier in the day. The victim positively
identified the golf cart as his.
Investigators obtained warrants for the arrest of Parry and
Massey based upon Lt. Finnen’s traffic stop investigation. Investigators
located Parry at her home in Homosassa yesterday where she was arrested. The
golf cart was also located at her home and recovered. Massey was located at his
home in Inglis and was arrested.
Parry is being held in the Citrus County Jail and has been
charged with burglary and grand theft. Her bond has been set at $75,000. Massey
is being held at the Levy County Detention Facility and has been charged with
burglary and grand theft. His bond has been set at $100,000.
