On July 26, 2016, Deputies
from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a suspicious
item at the Fanning Springs State Park.
The item had been discovered in the ladies restroom and was ultimately
determined to be a video camera.
Personnel from the Florida Park
Service, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the LCSO
began a search of the Fanning Springs Park to locate the subject who was responsible
for concealing the camera. Investigators
Mike Wilkinson and Zeb Richburg located and questioned Ronald Alan Everett
(4-27-66). After being confronted with
the evidence against him, Everett confessed to placing the camera in the
restroom underneath a sink. Everett made
statements indicating that he may have placed additional cameras in other
public restrooms.
Investigator Wilkinson arrested
Everett and charged him with Video Voyeurism. Everett was also charged with
Possession of less than 20 grams of Cannabis, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
and Giving False Identification to Law Enforcement. Everett is currently being housed at the Levy
County Detention Center. His total bond
has been set at $154,500.00. Everett was
listed as a “Sexual Offender” on the FDLE website for a prior offense.
The investigation into
whether Everett set up additional cameras in other locations is
continuing. LCSO has published
photographs of the recovered camera used in this incident to make our public
aware of the design and location of where it was concealed. We urge everyone to be aware of their
surroundings when using public restrooms.
