The Levy County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to send four deputies
to the Florida Panhandle for Hurricane Michael relief. The Florida Division of
Emergency Management in cooperation with the Florida Sheriff’s Association
(FSA) Task Force understand the need for assistance and recovery in the wake of
this disaster will last for months. The counties affected by this devastating
hurricane will likely need assistance from other law enforcement agencies for
some time to come as members from their agencies try to rebuild their own homes
and lives.
The FSA has assumed the coordination of law enforcement relief
efforts and the scheduling of deputies responding to these affected communities
as top priority. Deputies responding to assist are being deployed from their
home Offices in seven day shifts and are coming from all agencies around the
state. Responding deputies are being assigned to a myriad of security duties
including patrolling residential and business areas guarding from looting and
other safety issues.
Sheriff McCallum is a proud member of the FSA and even more
proud of the volunteers from our agency. Dedicated members such as these who
unselfishly volunteered to respond to help our neighbors in their time of need
are the driving force behind the LCSO and our commitment to Florida citizens.
Sheriff McCallum asks that you continue to keep the communities in the
panhandle, his fellow Sheriff’s as well our members and all the other first
responders in your prayers.
On Tuesday, October 23, 2018 a trailer filled with relief supplies
will be departing the LCSO in route to the panhandle. These supplies have been
donated by our Sheriff’s Office members, the Levy County Emergency Management, the
employees of the Levy County Constitutional Officers, Levy County employees and
Levy County Citizens. We thank everyone for their support as we continue to
restore some of the essentials of life to the devastated victims of Hurricane
Michael in the Panhandle.
